Thane: Wrestler Vishal Jadhav from Thane district has secured a prestigious place in the Maharashtra team following the selection trials for the Under-23 Senior National Wrestling Championship. The trials were held on June 28 at the Hindkesari Yogesh Dodke Wrestling Complex in Warje, Pune. Vishal is a wrestler representing 'Shree Ganesh Akhada,' which is managed by the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation and the Mira-Bhayandar Wrestlers' Association.
Fifteen renowned wrestlers from across the state participated in the 92 kg weight category during these open selection trials organized by the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association. Vishal stormed into the final by defeating Kolhapur's Avdhut Avghade (10-0) in the first round, Solapur's Udaysing Sodkar (15-9) in the second round, and Pune's Niranjan Majire (12-8) in the semi-final. In the final bout, he achieved a resounding 10-0 victory over Sangli's Pratik Gaund to clinch the top honor.
Currently in his final year of the Arts stream at Abhinav College, Bhayandar, Vishal trains at the 'Janata Raja Wrestling Centre.' He will now represent Maharashtra at the national championship scheduled to take place in Rohtak, Haryana, from July 10 to July 12, 2026. Representatives from Shree Ganesh Akhada have congratulated him on this success and extended their best wishes for the upcoming national tournament.
